Hon. Afam Mbanefo taking right steps to ensure better and safer transportation in Anambra State.

Team Ministry of transport led by Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Afam Mbanefo met with Luxurious bus Owners Association.

Agreed on implementation of Electronic Passengers manifest .

Agreed on observation of Covid 19 protocols as it relate to inter state transportation .

Says the ministry has not Authorized anybody as enforcement team,rather currently accrediting enforcement team being paid by Government.

Hints them on the upcoming decongestion in major traffic points in the state.

The meeting which started under the chairmanship of Sir G U O Okeke, had opening remark by Anambra State Commissioner for health,Sir Vincent Okpala ,who briefed the Union of Covid 19 historical status in Anambra, and what is expected of the Luxurious buses, since they are critical to containment of Spread of the Virus. Hon Vincent Okpala also said drivers with known symptoms will be given testing priority in view of critical nature of their role in the society.

Also contributing, the Digital Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Afam Mbanefo informed the Union about Ministry of transport proposed Electronic manifest for transporters in Anambra State. The Electronic manifest will help easy tracking of Known contacts of Covid- 19 infested person ,gives transporters platform for linkage with insurance companies, help social distancing measure by decongesting the parks ,helps transporters keep accurate records of their businesses for sustainable growth etc .

In the words of the Commissioner

" this is the first time we are meeting ,I came in as Commissioner for Transport three weeks ago , I came to this meeting with Commisioner for Health, I invited him to talk to us because we are among the sector mostly exposed to Covid-19. Today's meeting is very critical, our Governor want stability in transport sector to enable you have return on investment , early this month, all the Commissioners of transport in the federation had meeting with minister of transport, we agreed on the following,
1. Palliatives to Support road transporters ,
2. Operation reduction in number of passengers per trip to contain spread of Corona virus,
3. States to take charge of implementation, monitoring and evaluation of agreed measures etc.

We are here to implement these measures as a team "

Responding, the Chairman of Luxurious buses Owners Association, Chief G.U.O Okeke on behalf of the Union thanked the Commissioner for the wonderful innovations.

According to him " we thank the Commisioner for the wonderful innovations, I have known him as a due process man ,we will implement the electronic manifest to benefit from the advantages especially the insurance etc , but we will like both the electronic and manual manifest to coexist to protect the smaller companies that might not upgrade immediately , but with time, also we will implement 50% reduction in number of passengers to contain Covid 19 ,in doing this ,we will jointly monitor the drivers, so that they will not mess up the program while driving on the highway "

Afterwards the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Afam Mbanefo had a brief inspection of the park at Ose market axis, he pointed out that the encroachment of traders to the road has made the access road to the park very narrow and almost impossible to navigate to and fro.

Hon. Afam Mbanefo on getting to Awka went for a familiarization visit to Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) Anambra State Command. He told the FRSC Commander and his team his plans at the Ministry of Transport and solicits for the support of the FRSC to get this plans implemented. He also mentioned the Operation decongest Anambra Roads and war against one-way driving and drivers without licence operating in the state.

The FRSC Anambra State Commander pledged the support of his team to partner with the Ministry of Transport in all programs that involves road safety because that is their mandate. And having partnered with Hon. Afam Mbanefo when he was at the Ministry of Youths, that he is glad His Excellency brought him to Transport Ministry to implement positive ideas.
